What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a skin rejuvenation treatment that uses very fine, sterile needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This activates the skin’s natural healing response and stimulates the production of collagen and elastin.

The treatment can be performed on different areas of the face and body and is particularly useful for patients looking to improve skin texture and achieve smoother, firmer and more even-looking skin.

Common reasons for treatment include:

  • Fine lines and early signs of ageing

  • Acne scars and other superficial scars

  • Enlarged pores

  • Uneven skin texture

  • Dull or tired-looking skin

  • Uneven skin tone

  • Loss of skin firmness

Benefits of Microneedling

Microneedling may help to:

Improve skin texture and smoothness
Stimulate natural collagen production
Reduce the appearance of fine lines
Improve the appearance of acne scars
Reduce the appearance of enlarged pores
Create firmer, fresher-looking skin
Improve overall skin quality

How Does the Treatment Work?

  1. Skin assessment
Your skin and treatment goals are assessed before treatment.

  2. Preparation
The skin is thoroughly cleansed and prepared for the procedure.

  3. Microneedling treatment
The Dermapen is passed systematically over the treatment area, creating controlled micro-channels at an individually selected depth.

  4. After the treatment
The skin may appear red and feel warm or sensitive immediately afterwards. This usually settles gradually over the following days.

Is Microneedling Safe?

When performed correctly by trained professionals using sterile, single-use needle cartridges, microneedling is generally considered a safe, minimally invasive treatment.

At Clinica NorMed, treatment parameters are individually selected according to the treatment area, skin condition and desired result.

Who Is the Treatment Suitable For?

Microneedling can be suitable for adults (men and women) who want to improve skin quality, texture or specific concerns such as fine lines, enlarged pores or acne scarring.

A consultation is recommended before treatment to determine whether microneedling is appropriate for your skin.

Frequently Asked Questions About Microneedling

Does microneedling hurt?
The level of discomfort depends on the treatment depth and area being treated. Most patients describe the treatment as tolerable.

How long does the treatment take?
A typical facial treatment takes approximately 45 minutes, although the total treatment time may vary depending on whether multiple areas are being treated.

How will my skin look afterwards?
Redness similar to mild sunburn is common immediately after treatment. Some patients may also experience temporary sensitivity, dryness or mild swelling.

When will I see results?
Skin may begin to look fresher as it recovers, while collagen remodelling develops gradually over the following weeks.

How many treatments will I need? For patients trying microneedling for the first time, a course of three treatments is generally recommended for optimal results. After completing the initial course, 1–2 maintenance treatments per year are usually recommended, although some patients may benefit from treatment every three months, depending on their skin and individual goals.

Can microneedling be combined with other treatments?
Yes, depending on your skin and treatment goals. Your practitioner can advise you on suitable combinations and appropriate intervals between treatments.
